Americas Best Value Inn Holbrook Hotel near Meteor Crater AZ.
- Holbrook, Arizona: Holbrook is on the banks
of the Little Colorado River in northeastern Arizona's Navajo
County high plateau country. In 1881 railroad tracks were laid
in northeastern Arizona passing through an area known as Horsehead
Crossing. The following year a railroad station was built at Horsehead
Crossing and the community's name was changed to Holbrook in honor
of H. R. Holbrook, first chief engineer of the Atlantic and Pacific
Railroad. Holbrook, at an elevation of 5,080 feet, became the
county seat of Navajo County in 1895 and was incorporated in 1917.
A variety of attractions surround Holbrook. To the north is the rugged plateau country with striking canyons containing prehistoric cliff-dwellings, such as those found in Canyon de Chelly. Much of the plateau country is Navajo and Hopi Reservation land. These reservations offer unique attractions including ceremonial dances, tribal events, and Indian arts and crafts.
- Meteor Crater: Located in Northern Arizona,
a visit to the Meteor Crater Visitor Center provides you with
an enjoyable educational experience in well maintained, modern
facilities, which are kept spotlessly clean. The former Museum
of Astrogeology has been remodeled and includes new displays on
the never-ending process of impacts and collisions in our solar
system. The Meteor Crater Interactive Learning Center includes
twenty-four exciting exhibits, making it the most extensive and
informative museum of its type on planet earth. Also included
in the Learning Center are two interactive computer displays that
contain information and high-tech graphics on space, meteorites
and asteroids, the solar system, and the Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet
that impacted Jupiter. The Meteor Crater is located off Interstate
40 at exit 233, 35 miles East of Flagstaff, 20 miles West of Winslow,
in Arizona.
- Petrified Forest - Painted Desert: One of
the world's largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified
wood, multi-hued badlands of the Painted Desert, historic structures,
archeological sites, and displays of 225 million year old fossils,
this is a surprising land of scenic wonders and fascinating science.
The Painted Desert covers an area of 93,533 acres that stretches southeast from the Grand Canyon to the Petrified Forest National Park. The desert derives its name from the multi-hued badlands of the Chinle Formation rocks that cover the park
