About Holbrook
Holbrook, Arizona was a frontier town in 1881 and it has been a frontier town ever since. Only the theme has changed.

In the 1880's, the frontiersmen were cowboys, cattle ranchers and railroaders who made Holbrook the center of ranch country.

The 1898 courthouse, now on the National Register of Historic Places, is the centerpiece of town.

In the 1930s through the 1950s, the "frontiersmen" were travelers of Route 66, known as The Mother Road and The Main Street of America. This narrow strip of asphalt was a symbol of hope for farmers fleeing the dust bowl and soldiers starting a new life after World War II.

Today Holbrook is the frontier for modern explorers. The spectacular beauty and spirituality of Indian Country beckons travelers to pull off Interstate 40. When they do, they step into a different space and time, where ancient traditions and values provide a deep and rich perspective on life.

Holbrook is a great home base for a tour of Navajo, Hopi and Apache country. Holbrook, Arizona, is just 28 miles from the Petrified Forest National Park. We are 3 1/2 hours West of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and 3 hours north of Phoenix, Arizona.

Winslow Meteor Crater

http://www.meteorcrater.com/

Visit the world's best preserved meteorite impact site just minutes from Interstate 40 in Northern Arizona near Winslow. Meteor Crater is the breath-taking result of a collision between a piece of an asteroid traveling at 26,000 miles per hour and planet Earth approximately 50,000 years ago.

Today, Meteor Crater is nearly one mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference and more than 550 feet deep. It is an international tourist venue with outdoor observation trails, air conditioned indoor viewing, wide screen movie theater, interactive discovery center, unique gift and rock shop, and Astronaut Memorial Park at the modern Visitor Center located on the crater rim.

Meteor Crater's "Collisions And Impacts" movie allows viewers to experience the thunderous sound and explosive fury of the meteor's super-heated trip through the Earth's atmosphere. Then, the spectacular result of the collision that rocked the American Southwest with the energy of more than 20 million tons of TNT can be explored first-hand just outside the Visitor Center at Meteor Crater Arizona.

Welcome. You have come to Hopi Land. We Hopi are known for having lived here as a people continuously from ancient time. Where we are located today in present-day Arizona is where we have always lived with roots back in time to some one hundred generations in our land. Our culture, therefore, is one of the first (oldest) on the continent.

Located in Northern Arizona, the Hopi Reservation encompasses approximately 1.5 million acres. The three breathtaking mesas of Hopiland rise up 7,200 feet, offering panoramic views of the surrounding low-altitude desert.

Museum of the Americans:

Crystal Forrest Museum:

The Crystal Forest is so named because many of the logs found here contained clear quartz and purple amethyst crystals making for beautiful logs. Unfortunately, souvenir hunters helped themselves long ago, taking the best samples away. A few crystallized logs remain but the more typical petrified logs are more abundant. The disappearance of the crystal logs led to the area's ultimate protection as a National Monument in 1906 and finally a National Park in 1962.
